FAQ'S
Patients often report:
Easier, more consistent nasal breathing
Better sleep quality and daytime energy
Less clenching/jaw tension
More efficient chewing/swallowing
Improved orthodontic stability by addressing the habits behind relapse
Myofunctional therapy helps retrain the muscles and habits used every day for breathing, chewing, swallowing, and resting posture, creating lasting functional changes rather than temporary improvements.
Wondering if myofunctional therapy is right for you? Schedule your Clinical Evaluation to receive a personalized assessment and treatment plan.
Your Clinical Evaluation is the first official step in your Myo Moves journey. During this 60-minute one-on-one video appointment, we take a comprehensive look at your health history, symptoms, and oral function to better understand the factors contributing to your concerns.
Before your appointment, you'll complete your health history forms and submit a series of facial and intraoral photographs. During your evaluation, we'll review these together while discussing your symptoms, medical history, breathing, sleep, oral habits, and other relevant findings.
Rather than simply determining whether you need myofunctional therapy, this appointment is designed to identify the bigger picture. If additional evaluations or specialists are recommended, you'll receive personalized referrals and guidance to help you move forward with confidence.
You'll leave your appointment with a clear understanding of your clinical findings, your top three recommended next steps, and a personalized action plan tailored to your unique needs.

The Functional Assessment is the second step of your evaluation process. During this one-hour appointment, we assess how your muscles function in real time, including breathing patterns, tongue mobility, oral rest posture, chewing, swallowing, and muscle coordination.
These findings establish your functional baseline and allow us to develop your personalized myofunctional therapy program. If therapy is recommended, this appointment prepares you to begin treatment with exercises and goals tailored specifically to your needs.

Most treatment plans require approximately 10 to 15 minutes of home practice each day, often divided into short, manageable sessions.
Consistency is much more important than perfection. Your therapy program will be customized to your goals, lifestyle, and progress, making it realistic and sustainable.
Treatment length varies based on your age, goals, diagnosis, and consistency with home exercises.
In general:
Adults: Approximately 3 to 4 months
Children: Approximately 6 to 12 months
Some patients complete therapy sooner, while others require additional time depending on the complexity of their case and whether orthodontics, tongue-tie treatment, expansion, sleep treatment, or other therapies are part of their care.
Your personalized timeline will be discussed after your Clinical Evaluation and Functional Assessment.
Many patients notice improvements within the first few weeks, such as easier nasal breathing, reduced jaw tension, improved sleep quality, or increased energy. Long-lasting changes develop gradually as healthier muscle patterns become automatic through consistent practice. Your timeline will depend on your individual goals, starting point, and commitment to your home program.
Absolutely.
Successful myofunctional therapy is often part of a multidisciplinary approach. When appropriate, we collaborate with orthodontists, dentists, ENTs, sleep physicians, oral surgeons, physical therapists, speech-language pathologists, lactation consultants, and other healthcare professionals.
If referrals are recommended, you'll receive personalized guidance during your Clinical Evaluation.
If we suspect an oral restriction, we'll evaluate your symptoms, mobility, and functional limitations during your Clinical Evaluation and Functional Assessment.
If appropriate, we'll recommend a trusted tongue-tie provider and coordinate treatment timing to optimize your outcome. Many patients benefit from preparing with therapy before a release and continuing therapy afterward to achieve the best long-term results.
